Road to cure?
An experimental peptide is in the spotlight of its potential to promote tissue repair, reduce inflammation and protect intestinal health.
Joe Rogan, 57, among BPC-157 fans, reported that he erased elbow tendinitis in just two weeks. Biohackers expect their regenerative and anti -inflammatory powers to lead to healthier and healthier lives.
“People who tried to change their lives,” said Dr. Michael Aziz, an internist in New York and author of “The Ag Sless Revolution,” he told The Post.
“Then BPC-157 will you revolutionize physical therapy?” Thought. “We hope the investigation arrives soon.”
Here is a look at the science behind emerging therapy.
What is BPC-157?
BPC-157 is the short name of the Body Protection Compound 157.
It consists of 15 amino acids and derived from a protein that occurs naturally in human stomach juice.
Dr. Christian Muller, a sports medicine with Northwell Health Orthopedics in Westchester, said that BPC-157 was discovered in the early 1990’s during research on substances that could protect the body from damage.
As it works exactly in the body it is not completely understood.
“Research suggests that BPC-157 can work by improving the formation of new blood vessels, which improves blood flow and the delivery of nutrients to injured tissues, accelerating healing,” said Aziz.
“It also influences the expression of various growth factors, such as growth hormone receptors, which are crucial for tissue repair and regeneration,” he added.
Within possible benefits
Food and drug administration has not approved BPC-157, as much of the research has been done in animals.
“There are few very limited studies on humans,” Muller told The Post. “A study showed that knee injections with BPC-157 helped arthritis in 11 out of 12 subjects, but the study did not use verified survey tools to obtain reliable responses on effectiveness.”
BPC-157 is being explored by:
- Tissue repair
- Healing of muscle, tendon, ligament and skin wounds
- Collagen production
- Neuroinflammation
- Nervous regeneration
- Arthritis
- Gastric ulcers
- Inflammatory intestinal disease (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis)
- Folding gut syndrome
- Irritable bowel syndrome
“Did you have recent knee surgery? Has a gym injury and your doctor suggested physical therapy for six months? Not so fast. BPC-157 can help,” said Aziz.
How much do you have to take?
Dr. Pooja Gidwani, an internal medicine and double -tipped obesity doctor, said that there is no standard doses because human data are limited.
He suggested that oral forms of BPC-157 can be useful for intestinal problems, while injections are usually preferred for systemic healing, such as joint or tendon recovery.
He has “nuanced conversations” with patients who want to try it.
“Let’s start with an open and informed discussion about current evidence: what is promising and what is unknown,” Gidwani told The Post.
“For some patients who deal with chronic intestinal problems, tendon injuries or postoperative healing challenges,” he continued, “we discuss where science is currently located and makes a collaborative decision based on goals, risk tolerance and alternatives.”
Some researchers recommend the bicycle to avoid side effects.
Andrew Huberman, a neuroscientist and professor of neurobiology and ophthalmology, suggests limiting BPC-157 to eight weeks and pause eight weeks or more.
“My concern about taking BPC157 continuously: it promotes vascular growth and, if you have a small tumor, it will vascularize this tumor too. It’s not good,” Huberman has tweeted in April.
And be aware if you buy online capsules.
“Many times it is false or not safe,” Aziz advised.
Behind the possible disadvantages
“There are possible security problems, but, given the lack of human data, they are not really known,” said Muller.
“Since it has been shown that BPC-157 has been biologically active in various complex body processes,” he added, “there may be many unknown potential dangers in various organ systems.”
As it can lead to uncontrolled growth of new blood vessels, people with a history of cancer or worries about tumors should approach BPC-157 caution.
As it has been shown to interact with growth hormones, Aziz warned of potential hormonal interruption with widespread use.
It is also on the prohibited list of the World Anti-Doping Agency for professional athletes due to their unoffed claims and possible health risks.
Scientists expect more information about this soon.
“Peptides like BPC-157 are part of an exciting border in a long-lived and regenerative medicine, but they still evolve,” said Gidwani.
“It’s not a bombo, it’s about understanding the potential, also respecting the limitations of what we know.”
